Bankruptcy Can Stop Foreclosure
Losing your home is a hard reality to face. If you are in the foreclosure process, one of the most important things you can do is to consult an experienced bankruptcy lawyer who will explain your options and give you honest, practical advice.
I am attorney Roger Kraft, a Salt Lake City attorney who helps clients obtain a fresh start and find solutions to their financial distress. Every day, my law firm helps people obtain peace of mind and freedom from the unwanted effects of being overwhelmed with debt.
Despite what many people think, even once the foreclosure process has begun, it is not too late. I work one-on-one with my clients to provide practical recommendations and creative strategies to meet those goals. Contact my law office to schedule a free consultation to learn more. Please call 801-871-8353 or 800-640-3207, or complete my contact form. I can help.
Options For Avoiding Foreclosure
If you are facing foreclosure, you have several options, including:
- Coming current: I will discuss your financial situation with you and review ways to help you get current on your payments. Many are unable to afford mortgage payments due to job loss, divorce, medical emergencies or other life changes. If coming current is not an option, we can discuss loan modifications or bankruptcy options.
- Loan modifications: To many homeowners, loan modifications seem like the light at the end of the tunnel. But most people never reach the end because their applications for modifications are never approved. The truth is, only a small fraction of all applications are approved and people lose thousands of dollars going through the process. Loan modifications are an option, but might not be the best option.
- Chapter 13 bankruptcy: Filing for Chapter 13 bankruptcy will stop foreclosure immediately. It is a debt repayment plan that will give you additional time to catch up and get back on track.
In some cases, letting the foreclosure happen might be a smart financial choice, albeit difficult. I will help you make an informed decision about what course of action would put you in the best position to move forward successfully.
